Sandblasting & Mulimedia

Sandblasting is a process used to shape, smooth or clean surfaces. Similar to other methods, the process consists of propelling uniform particles directly at the surface of objects at high speeds. Sand used to be the most popular method for blasting but since the discovery of lung disease, silicosis (caused by inhalation of the dust), other materials are often used in its place:

  • Aluminum Oxide
  • White Aluminum Oxide
  • Corn Cobs
  • Crushed Class
  • Glass Beads
  • Plastic
  • Pumice
  • Silicon Carbide
  • Steel Shot
  • Walnut Shell
  • White Lightening
  • Green Lightening

Popular Applications:

Sandblasting is used for priming and smoothing surfaces before painting. The process is similar to how you would use sandpaper however this provides a much faster and more effective job - you can access those hard to reach places and paint is removed evenly!

Sandblasting in additon is popular for decorating or frosting glass. The process allows you to etch, carve or pitt glass without it cracking or breaking.

Keep in Mind

Sandblasting requires clean up of secondary waste after blasting has taken place.  Due to the dangers associated with the dust, sandblasting must be carefully controlled and the proper safety gear must be worn.

Hear it from them...

In an automotive plant in Southwestern Ontario, a dip tank was cleaned using media blasting in preparation for installing a corrosion protection coating.

"Thank you to your crew for a great job!   We look forward to working with you again in the future."

Sometimes a job requires more than one cleaning method to do an efficient job. That was the case in this job, where multiple media applications were used to clean the side of a building in Waterloo. Even though the crew was faced with cold and rainy weather, the job was completed successfully and with great results.

"I just wanted to thank you and your crew for doing a fantastic job for us on this project. From day one, you took the time to educate our clients on the best process to use, and managed the steps for cleaning the exterior of their building. Considering the cold weather we had, your crew kept the site very clean and completed the project on time. Thank you for helping us out on this job, it looks great!"
